Ms Sans Serif – They replaced my Stargate SG-1 with a series called Dead Like Me. In the fictional world of this series, once people die grim reapers collect and watch over their souls until they can be sent to where they need to go. If your soul is the last soul in the reaper’s quota then you replace that person as a reaper. As an undead, you have to provide for your own housing and food, but must be available to collect a soul every now and then as long as it is in your department. When the main character asks about Jesus or reincarnation, one of the older reapers answer her with the question “Does it matter?”

There have been many shows and movies that try to resolve death and the afterlife. Some probably had people on it who genuine did not know the Scriptures, some probably only wanted to make something entertaining, but there is always the possibility that somebody wanted to put up an alternative. There are lots of alternatives, but I guess people could always use one more. The Bible, however, says its going to happen only one way and it’s not kind to everybody.

Revelation 20:11-21 tells us, “11Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. 14Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”
We will all be judged according to what we have done. What have you done? Is your name
written in the book of life? I think, it does matter. People get some of the things they believe from t.v. and it’s so much easier to believe a show where grim reapers impartially help people get to their heaven than to believe a very old book where God is in charge. At least, with God, we know where exactly the line between good and evil as and just what it takes to be made good. Only be being made good can we get to heaven, because not even the best of us is good enough to get there on our own.

  1. Replacein the reaper? That actually sounds like it would be cool. Then again there are pobably parts of the job that really suck. (Like orphaning a child)

...Anyway, that's just how I feel about it ... What do you think?
