1 John 2:15-17, “15Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16For everything in the world—the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from the world. 17The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.”
Perhaps one of the more difficult concepts for Christians is now to live in this world but not be of it. After all, everybody needs shelter, clothing, and food. Not everybody needs a 3,500 sq ft mini-mansion, designer clothing, and gourmet cuisine. These three verses isses a not-so-simple challenge: Do not love the world. Remember that the Greek had four different words meaning love? I’m not quite sure which once was being referred to, but one thing is clear. God loves the world’s people but not its ways. Is the love of the Father in you?
