Wandering the occasional garage sale, I’ll pick up an item and soon the old man that is trying to sell it to me tells me, “That’s the genuine article, they certainly don’t make them like they used to.”
The word genuine has these meanings: actually having the reputed or apparent qualities or character, actually produced by or proceeding from the alleged source or author, sincerely and honestly felt or experienced, actual, true, and free from hypocrisy or pretense : sincere.
What does it mean to be a genuine Christian? To have the reputation or qualities of a christian? To have a connection to the source/author of Christianity? To be sincere? To be honest? To experience Christ as He truely, actually is? To be free from hypocrisy and pretense?
I remember reading that there was a time that Christians out-gave the welfare system of the governing authority over them. I remember reading that there was a time that Christians were taking in plague vicitims that everybody else was kicking out. I remember reading that there was a time that Christians prayed for a hundred years and as a result their faith was brought to a whole new world. You know, they certainly don’t make Christians like they used to – and that probably explains something of why the world is the way it is.
What does it mean to you for you to be a genuine Christian?
